Civil society organisations — working with children, youth and communities — are already at the frontline of dealing with the impact of the broken information ecosystem. Our Civil Society Programme partners with CSOs to give them and the communities they work with the cognitive tools to engage with the evolving media and information landscape, and to build MIL practices that they own and run themselves.
What we offer
- MIL programme for community influencers — a 15-hour curriculum delivered over three days.
- Residential workshops — we conduct two short courses every year at the Sambhaavnaa Institute of Public Policy, Palampur (Himachal Pradesh), for civil society organisations from across India. Participants have come from six states so far.
- Facilitators course (Bengaluru) — a 9–12 month structured capacity-building programme: three workshops of 2–3 days spread over 6–8 months, with field practice and mentoring in between, culminating in an MIL project run by the participating organisation.
- Programme-level partnerships — deeper, multi-year collaborations where we help a CSO design and pilot its own MIL programme, with our engagement stepping down as theirs becomes stable.
Organisations we have worked with
Paschim Banga Khet Majoor Samity, Jan Jagaran Shakti Sangathan, Young Shala (Indore), Work for Equality (Pune), Centre for Social Justice (Ahmedabad), Pravah (Delhi), Azim Premji Foundation, Sambhaavnaa Institute, School for Democracy, Equidiversity Foundation, Basti Suraksha Manch, SRUTI (Faizabad), Tapish Foundation (Bhopal), Karta Initiative, Pickle Factory, and others.
From our workshops
Sambhaavnaa residencies. Two residential workshops with 41 civil society leaders from six states — on information perception, newsworthiness, manipulation, media business models, fact-checking and digital citizenship. Several participants have already replicated and adapted these learnings in their own organisations.
AltEd’s Media Literacy training has been a powerful learning experience for our team. It helped us understand, in a scientific and practical way, how social media influences behaviour and how misinformation spreads.— Prabha Vilas, Work for Equality
