Satyasodhak Fellowship

The Satyasodhak Fellowship is a two-year programme in Kolkata where we take in 4–6 young people each year. After an initial period of in-house training in media literacy, education and teaching–learning, fellows conduct MIL interventions in schools and communities — end to end: building relationships with schools, baseline assessments, lesson planning, delivery, and a final consolidation exercise that showcases everyone’s learning.

The fellowship exists to build professionals with deep MIL competence. After two years, fellows are absorbed into AltEd or placed in other organisations and communities to further the work.

Outcomes so far

  • 4 fellows graduated last year; 3 are now part of the AltEd team.
  • 6 fellows are currently in the programme.
  • Alumni work in classrooms, curriculum development and business development at AltEd.

From a fellow

“During the India–Pakistan war, the television portrays Pakistan as a country synonymous with terrorism. In that case, are the children there — those who are in the seventh or eighth grade, just like me — bad people? Are they terrorists, too? Can every single person in an entire country be a terrorist?”— a class 8 student during an AltED workshop; shared by Mantu, Satyasodhak fellow

Mantu joined the fellowship in early 2025 and now works full-time at AltEd.
